CORRELATION BETWEEN LOCALIZATION OF MYCOPLASMA HYOPNEUMONIAE IN RESPIRATORY AIRWAYS, MACROSCOPIC AND MICROSCOPIC LUNG LESIONS IN A LONGITUDINAL STUDY
The objective of this study was to correlate Mycoplasma hyopneumoniae detection in different respiratory sites with presence of EP gross and microscopic lung lesions in a longitudinal study
Mycoplasma hyopneumoniae (M.hyo) detection in upper respiratory sites (nasal and tonsillar) has been shown to be in agreement with its detection in bronchus, in diagnostic samples. Moreover the three respiratory sites were good indicators of presence of enzootic pneumonia (EP) microscopic lung lesions, being bronchial and nasal swabs the best choices (4). However, colonization at different levels of the respiratory airways through time and its association with development of EP lung lesions in naturally infected pigs remains unknown. (...to read more)
