The delegation consisted of members of the Parliament’s Industry Committee. Specifically, those attending were Maite Selva i Huertas, Chair of the Business and Labour Committee (Junts); Elena Díaz Torrevejano, spokesperson for the Socialistes i Units per Avançar parliamentary group; Conchi Jiménez Cruz and Francesc Jesús Becerra, also Socialist MPs; Joan Canadell i Bruguera (Junts); Laia Cañigueral Olivé (Esquerra Republicana de Catalunya); and Àngels Esteller i Ruedas (Partit Popular).

The parliamentary delegation visited HIPRA’s R&D and production facilities in Amer to gain first-hand insight into how vaccines are researched and technologically developed at the company. HIPRA aims to attract and retain highly qualified talent, and company representatives highlighted the need to better align educational training with the demand for the technical and skilled profiles required by the industry. In this regard, 6 out of every 10 HIPRA employees hold a higher education degree.

Another key topic discussed during the visit was HIPRA’s commitment to Europe’s strategic autonomy. Particularly in a rapidly changing geopolitical environment, the company’s executives emphasized the value of having the entire value chain located in Europe. This distinctive model supports greater self-sufficiency and reduces dependence on third parties, including in the field of medicines. They also highlighted HIPRA’s involvement in strategic initiatives such as EU FAB, a European Commission project aimed at ensuring a faster response to future pandemics, while also recognizing the strength and capabilities of the national biotechnology industry as a strategic sector.

The members of the Business and Labour Committee visited the Amer facilities following an earlier visit at the beginning of the year by another parliamentary delegation specializing in health-related matters to the HIPRA Campus in Aiguaviva. HIPRA, which expressed its appreciation for the Committee’s interest in the company, remains committed to maintaining a constructive dialogue with public institutions.
