HIPRA participates in the ovine forum with the focus on subclinical mastitis

Sheep and goats

Once again, HIPRA participated in the Ovine Forum as the main sponsor, supporting a series of talks with the title “Discovering Subclinical Mastitis” to emphasize the importance of preventing subclinical mastitis on dairy farms.

Miguel Ángel Sanz Franco (small ruminants specialist at HIPRA) presented the results obtained in a study carried out with sheep veterinarians in Spain on the costs of mastitis control programmes.

This study concluded that vaccination with VIMCO® (vaccine against caprine and ovine mastitis) represents the lowest percentage of costs in mastitis control programmes. José Ramón Díaz Sánchez (Professor at the Miguel Hernández University in Elche) then spoke about mechanized milking and its relationship to udder health and milk quality.

Finally, Teresa Calvo (Corporate product manager, small ruminants, at HIPRA) presented the results of the publication published at the most recent International Bovine Mastitis Conference (NMC, Milan, Italy) which showed how vaccination with VIMCO® helps to reduce the somatic cell count and milk production losses as a result of mastitis caused by staphylococci.

With this type of initiative, HIPRA strengthens its commitment to prevention for animal health, especially in the ovine and caprine industries in Spain.
