HIPRA Biotech Services actively participated in BioSpain 2025, one of the most relevant biotechnology events in Europe, held in Barcelona. HIPRA Biotech Services had its own stand, from which it showcased its advanced solutions and services for the biotech industry. In addition, the company took part in various activities within the framework of the congress.

Round table: Europe facing the challenges of strategic autonomy

One of the most prominent events featuring HIPRA was the round table “Europe at the Helm: Rethinking Strategic Autonomy in an Uncertain World”, which brought together industry leaders, policymakers, scientists and investors to reflect on how Europe can ensure sustainable and competitive access to biotechnological innovation.
Speakers agreed on the importance of promoting local production of medicines and vaccines, reducing critical external dependencies, and strengthening a resilient innovation ecosystem based on public-private collaboration.

In his remarks, Csaba Gáli from the European Commission (HERA) highlighted that Europe emerged stronger from the pandemic thanks to the joint action of member states, emphasizing the need to maintain structured cooperation not only in times of crisis but also in preparedness. Teresa Parejo Navajas, from Spain’s Ministry of Industry and Tourism of Spanish Government, reminded attendees that biotechnology holds a central place in the European industrial agenda, with the approval of the CEP regulation and the forthcoming European Biotechnology Act expected in 2026.

From CEPI, Matthew Downham underlined the importance of understanding the needs of middle- and low-income countries to build more equitable global preparedness, while Jonathan Ewbank from ERINHA emphasized the strength of European research networks as a foundation for resilient responses to future crises. Finally, Carlota Gómez de la Hoz from HIPRA noted that there is still room for improvement in Europe’s preparedness for new epidemics, stressing the importance of fostering transparency, trust, and the key role of organizations and companies with research and R&D expertise.
