A choice of vaccine for the 2026 autumn COVID-19 vaccination programme will be made available through a partnership with Accord Healthcare
West London / Girona, September 8, 2026 – HIPRA, a European biopharmaceutical company announces that its protein-based COVID-19 vaccine, BIMERVAX® ▼LP.8.11 (COVID-19 Vaccine (recombinant, adjuvanted)), will be available in the United Kingdom as part of the UK’s 2026/27 autumn COVID-19 vaccination programme. The provision of the vaccine in the UK has been enabled through a strategic partnership with Accord Healthcare, a leading pharmaceutical company headquartered in London.
“We are delighted to collaborate with HIPRA to bring BIMERVAX® to the UK. This partnership reflects our joint commitment to improving access by expanding the range of vaccination options available to health authorities, healthcare professionals and eligible individuals.”, said Paul Tredwell, Chief Executive Officer, Accord Healthcare.
A European-developed and manufactured vaccine
HIPRA’s COVID-19 vaccine is researched, developed, manufactured and finished entirely in Europe, with every stage of the process taking place on the continent.
The COVID-19 vaccine is indicated for active immunisation to prevent COVID-19 caused by SARS-CoV-2 in individuals 12 years of age and older. Different vaccine platforms potentially bring different advantages, whether in terms of tolerability, durability of protection, or operational characteristics (handleability). Maintaining a range of vaccine technologies within immunisation programmes is important to support programme flexibility2 and choice for healthcare systems and eligible individuals.
Guidance from the Joint Committee on Vaccination and Immunisation (JCVI) includes a statement on the importance of having protein-based vaccines available as alternatives to mRNA vaccines, when selecting the most appropriate vaccination for eligible individuals.
“Making HIPRA’s protein-based COVID-19 vaccine available in the UK strengthens the vaccination programme by offering choice to programme designers, and healthcare professionals. A diversified vaccine portfolio enables a more nuanced approach to protecting vulnerable populations by potentially optimising overall programme design, while strengthening resilience and flexibility as COVID-19 becomes a routinely encountered respiratory infection," said Emeritus Professor Sir Jonathan Van-Tam, public health expert and former Deputy Chief Medical Officer of England.
The agreement marks an important milestone in HIPRA's international growth strategy and further strengthens the company's presence in one of Europe's leading healthcare markets.
As a European biopharmaceutical company, HIPRA remains committed to developing vaccine solutions and contributing to public health by supporting vaccination programmes and improving access to immunisation.
