Statement: 2026-2027 COVID-19 vaccination campaign

Human

June 26, 2026 – For countries that are planning an early vaccination campaign, HIPRA is ready to deliver its BIMERVAX® LP.8.1 vaccine approved for use in individuals aged 12 years and older. Use of the LP8.1. variant vaccine is in line with European Medicines Agency recommendations and considerations for the 2026/2027 COVID-19 season1.

LP.8.1 belongs to the JN.1 family of Omicron subvariants, and the current clinical data demonstrates that this LP.8.1-based vaccine elicits high levels of neutralizing antibodies against currently circulating JN.1-related subvariants, including XFG.

In parallel, HIPRA is currently finishing the manufacturing of its XFG variant vaccine and has submitted the updated dossier to EMA and anticipates European Commission approval in September. This two-step approach ensures countries have immediate access to a vaccine aligned with current EMA recommendation regarding strain composition, with the option to transition to an XFG-specific formulation as it becomes available after approval.

HIPRA remains committed to continuously updating BIMERVAX® vaccine in line with EMA recommendations, ensuring that the vaccine continues to be aligned with the variants recommended for each vaccination season.
