New testimonial of the usage of UNISTRAIN® PRRS in swine: the experience of a Dutch veterinarian

"When employing UNISTRAIN® PRRS in swine farms (in sows in particular) we see an improved fertility and a reduction of the problems associated with the condition, such as increased losses" says swine veterinarian Maurice Moonen of DAC ZuidOost from The Netherlands.

DAC ZuidOost started to use UNISTRAIN® PRRS one year after its launch in 2012. Their experience with the vaccine, during these two years and a half, implies ten farms that count about 8,000 sows. Although this is not a dramatically high number, they already see UNISTRAIN® PRRS as a good alternative in swine farms when the current vaccine is not offering the desired results.

In their experience, on the farms where they employ UNISTRAIN® PRRS, they can see good results which, in general, imply: fewer losseshigher fertility and a stable production rate of 10 week piglets. As such, they consider that the benefits of UNISTRAIN® PRRS are many times higher than the costs.

For a company like DAC ZuidOost, it is very important to establish a conclusive diagnosis of the current situation of the PRRS virus on the farm, before proceeding to the immunization with the vaccine. This conclusive diagnostic, may include extensive blood tests, among other tools to detect PRRS virus in swine. The results are then discussed with the pig farmer, and if the PRRS problems cannot be solved by management, the next step is proceed to vaccinate.
