HIPRA supports the campaign “The best plan for this winter: Get vaccinated” of the Spanish Association of Vaccinology (AEV) for the third consecutive year. This initiative aims to increase vaccination coverage and raise awareness about the importance of protecting against respiratory infections.

The campaign is specifically targeted to people aged 60 and over and risk groups, encouraging them to get vaccinated against flu and to check their pneumococcal vaccination status; at people over 70, to receive the COVID-19 vaccine; and to parents of children aged 6 to 59 months, to ensure their children are vaccinated against flu. And it emphasizes the importance of vaccination as the best way to maintain a good health and protect the health of those around us during the winter.

According to World Health Organization (WHO), the global activity of the SARS-CoV-2 virus has increased in recent months, reaching a test positivity rate of around 11%, the highest level since mid-2024. While most cases remain mild or moderate, this rise confirms that the virus continues to circulate and reinforces the importance of maintaining vaccination efforts to protect vulnerable groups.

In Spain, flu causes an average of 28,000 hospitalizations each year, and in children under five, over 4,000 hospitalizations occurred annually before the inclusion of the flu vaccine in the paediatric schedule. Last season, only 48% of children aged 6 to 59 months were vaccinated against flu. Among healthcare professionals, flu vaccination coverage remains at 39.5%, below the 75% target set by national health authorities. Experts also highlight other proven benefits of vaccination, including reducing cardiovascular risk and preventing complications associated with respiratory infections.

Through its support, HIPRA reaffirms its commitment to the prevention, awareness, and improvement of global health, contributing to a society that understands vaccination as a healthy life habit and an essential tool to protect ourselves and others.
