The course was focused on the need for a global approach to controlling PRRS (Porcine reproductive and respiratory syndrome).

After quantifying the economic impact of the disease worldwide and specially in Asia, Ivan Diaz, PRRS researcher at CReSA (animal health research center, Barcelona) explained the importance of biosecurity measures, the correct management of gilts and the proper use of the diagnostic tools to control the disease.

Ming Hsun Wu (Regional Technical & Marketing Manager Asia) and SangWon Seo (Technical & Marketing Manager HIPRA South Korea) gave an update on the situation of PRRS in Asia in general and in South Korea in particular.

The course included the most important aspects to be taken into account when choosing a MLV vaccine such as safetyefficacy and broader protection against different PRRS strains which are especially important in Asia.

This course forms part of the HIPRA University education programme that offers training solutions for veterinarians and farmers.

With this initiative, and following the increasing presence of UNISTRAIN® PRRS vaccine in the Asian countries HIPRA strengthens its commitment to Prevention in Animal Health.
