Successful third edition of HIPRA University on BRD in Germany

Cattle

HIPRA Deutschland hosted the third edition of its HIPRA University for Ruminants, a two-day educational event focused on respiratory diseases in cattle. Held at the unique setting of Serengeti-Park Hodenhagen, the event welcomed 40 veterinary professionals from across the country for a dynamic and hands-on learning experience.

A key highlight was the transthoracic ultrasound workshop led by Zbynĕk Dvořák, Regional Technical and Marketing Manager at HIPRA. Fifteen participants engaged in the practical session, learning how to apply on-farm diagnostics to detect and monitor the Bovine Respiratory Disease (BRD) complex. The participants had a very positive experience, finding the newly learned technique both easy and highly useful in their daily work to better inform farmers about BRD.

The second day featured a series of expert-led presentations offering their expertise on different aspects of cattle respiratory health. Prof. Christian Koch explored how nutrition influences immune response and resistance against BRD. Followed by Dr. Andreas Pelzer, responsible for the Cattle sector in Haus Düsse, discussed the impact of animal husbandry and their facilities on respiratory outcomes. Then Dr. Josef Beisel shared best practices for vaccination programs in fattening farms as an experienced practitioner from Bavaria.

Zbynĕk Dvořák provided deeper insight into the lung ultrasound diagnostic and showcased real-lung lesions of the animals. To conclude the event, Annabel Fuß, Technical Service Ruminants at HIPRA Germany, explained why cattle are so prone to developing respiratory diseases and how HIPRA vaccines can play a preventive role.
